French Medium Toast Oak chips (4 oz)

French Medium Toast Oak Chips are roasted between 350 - 375 °F to give them a medium toast. They will allow you to imitate storing your wine or beer in an oak barrel without the expense, giving you notes of vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
4oz is sufficient to add oak flavors and aromas to 5 gallon batch of beer.
Contact time from 6 weeks to 6 months depending on desired level of flavors.For white wine, 1 cup of chips is recommended. Try 2 cups for a red wine.
There are three ways to sanitize the chips before adding them to your fermentor:
1. Simply boil in water for 10 minutes, then drain and place the chips in your plastic or glass fermentor before transferring.
2. Soak the chips in a spirit, whiskey, vodka, etc. for 2 days to one month and pour everything into your beer or wine.
3. Mix a sanitizing potassium metabisulfite solution (a small pinch - 1/4tsp will treat 6 gallons) and soak the chips for 24 hours
